Safe Recruitment

As a diocese, we welcome the involvement of a wide range of people to make our churches the spiritual and welcoming places we want them to be and to ensure our Catholic communities are vibrant and safe places for everyone.

Standard 2 of In God’s Image requires that all church personnel and volunteers are recruited safely and that they observe the highest standards of conduct in their pastoral ministry.

When a prospective volunteer is recruited they receive a Role Descriptor: CatechistChildrens LiturgyEucharistic MinisterSacristan  and complete a volunteer Application Form, including naming two referees.  The Parish Safeguarding Coordinator checks their ID and completes a PVG Application Form for Tier 1 roles.  The new volunteer attends Safeguarding Induction Training and the Safeguarding Secretary is sent their references.

The Safeguarding Secretary will issue a Letter of Approval for the new volunteer and give them a Standards of Conduct Card.  The new volunteer cannot start their role until the Letter of Approval has been issued.
