Day of Prayer for those who have suffered from abuse

Dear brothers and sisters,

Each year the Catholic Church dedicates the Friday after Ash Wednesday as the Day of Prayer for those who have suffered from abuse. Any form of abuse is evil which can deeply harm individuals, families, the Church, and wider society. We are aware that two years of isolation have increased opportunities for abusive behaviour as well as given space for some to reflect more deeply on past abusive experiences. This Friday, 4th March, we recognise the pain which people have suffered, and we pray for healing and inner peace, gifts the Lord uniquely bestows.

At the beginning of Lent – a Season of new growth – I invite you to participate in the Day of Prayer. Your parish will announce the opportunities for communal prayer next Friday but, of course, we can also pray at home.

Yours in Christ,

+Brian
