The Baptism of Our Lord

The Baptism of our Lord

This weekend we celebrate the Baptism of Our Lord which concludes the Christmas Season. Over the past three weeks we have been celebrating the Nativity and its various Feasts which drew us more deeply into this beautiful mystery. Today Jesus is revealed as the Beloved Son who is filled with the Spirit. As Jesus prepares to begin his public ministry we see more clearly why he was born.

I want to reassure everyone although many of you cannot currently come to Mass or receive Holy Communion God is still present within you. In today’s Second Reading Peter realises that, post-Ascension, the ministry which Jesus began in Galilee was continuing through the Church, even among people and in ways Peter could never have expected. This delights him. Likewise, you already know by experience that God graces your lives even when we cannot meet together in Church. As we celebrate the Baptism of Jesus let us confidently remember that the same Jesus cares for us today.

May the Lord bless you all,
