Reopening of Churches: Message from Bishop Brian McGee

Mingarry, Our Lady of the Angels

Dear brothers and sisters,

I know that you will join in my happiness that our Churches will reopen for public worship on Friday 26th March, which will be in time for Palm Sunday and Holy Week. It is wonderful that this year our clergy and people can publicly celebrate together the mysteries of our salvation during the Easter Triduum.

The cap of 20 will be raised to 50, provided the Church can safely accommodate that number with 2 m physical distancing. However, the maximum remains at 20 for funerals.

I thank everyone for their patience during the recent closure. I also thank our clergy for their ongoing spiritual and pastoral support of you at this challenging time. I am also grateful to the many volunteers who will enable the safe reopening of our Churches.

I encourage everyone to continue to follow the Government’s health guidance during the pandemic. Let us continue to pray that the virus will be defeated, both at home and across the world.

As we continue our Lenten journey may the Lord abundantly bless you and your families,
