Praying the Scriptures

Lectio Divina

“Did not our hearts burn with us as he talked to us on the road and explained the scriptures to us?” (Luke 24:32). Over past few days, our Gospels have revealed that the Risen Jesus opened up the disciples’ minds to understand the Scriptures.

The Scriptures are the Word of God. The Holy Spirit inspired their writing and breathes life into them today when they are approached in faith. Praying the Scriptures is very useful for deepening our personal bond with the Lord. A traditional method of praying the Scriptures is called Lectio Divina. Every week Bishop Brian will record himself leading Lectio Divina of the Gospel for the forthcoming Sunday. This will be available on the diocesan website and YouTube page from Fridays. This allows you to pray the Sunday Gospel at a time which suits you best.  If you find Lectio Divina helpful, then read the information notes and try praying the Scriptures by yourself.
