Fr Wilfrid Gettins

Our Diocese of Argyll and the Isles owes a debt of gratitude to those priests who, although they were not native to the Diocese, gave their lives or part of their lives as priests to the Diocese.

One of these was Fr Wilfrid Gettins (second left in the main picture). He was born in Glagow in 1868. He went to the Abbey School at Fort Augustus and then studied at Douai (France), Prior Park, and Bearsden. Ordained in 1896 he served at Rothesay (1896-1901); Glencoe (1901-1903); Laggan (1903-1906); Inverie (1906-1919); Oban 91919-1923)Dunoon (1923); Taynuilt (1924-1934). He retired in 1935 and lived in Connel from 1937 until his death in 1947. This photo is one taken of him around 1930 when he was in Taynuilt
