Bishop Brian’s Thoughts at Safeguarding Conference.

Greetings from Rome! I am participating in the annual Anglophone Safeguarding Conference, hosted this year by the Bishops Conferences of Ireland and New Zealand. This Safeguarding Conference has taken place for over 20 years and brings together Catholics from all over the English-speaking world.

Today we were reminded that the reason for Safeguarding is because people are the most important part of the world. This is why we need to build a culture of Safeguarding and not merely comply with regulations. Likewise, diligent Safeguarding doesn’t restrict the Church’s work but reassures everyone, thus enabling the Church to better spread the joy of the Gospel.
