Act of Consecration

Dear brothers and sisters,

At this dark hour, the Church intercedes in prayer to the Prince of Peace and to show her closeness to those suffering from the war in Ukraine. This Friday, Solemnity of the Annunciation, Pope Francis will carry out a solemn Act of Consecration of humanity, and Russia and Ukraine in particular, to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Pope Francis has invited the bishops, priests, and laity of the world to join with him in the Act of Consecration. I will lead the Act of Consecration in our Cathedral of St Columba’s at 4 pm, the same time as Pope Francis will lead the ceremony in Rome.

I encourage you to join together in your parishes, families, and homes to pray the Act of Consecration at a convenient time, which may well also be at 4 pm. In the Holy Father’s words let us “in this dramatic moment lift up our hearts to God, through his Mother and ours, the cry of pain of all those who suffer and implore an end to the violence, and to entrust the future of our human family to the Queen of Peace”.
