Poverty and Homelessness Action Week runs from January 28 – February 5, 2012. Marian Pallister, Argyll & the Isles Justice & Peace commissioner, says: ‘We may not see too many homeless people on the streets in Argyll and the Isles, but as the gap between rich and poor in the UK continues to grow, more people in our own parishes are having to live in temporary accommodation or hostels. It’s too easy to allow them to lose dignity and become further marginalised.’
The Action Week aims to challenge the stigma, misunderstanding and injustice faced by our hidden homeless. Go to www.actionweek.org.uk for more information. You’ll find this prayer there:
Father, we thank you that Jesus came to break down barriers. He did not see the migrant or the settled, the housed or the homeless, the employed or the unemployed; He saw and loved the person. Forgive us when we put up barriers between ourselves and others; help us show love to all without constraint. Help us, your church, to build communities without barriers, where all are valued because all are made in your image. In Jesus’ name, Amen
