Welcome to the Diocese of Argyll and the Isles Website 



The diocese was founded in 1878 and extends from the parish of Campbeltown and the Isle of Arran in the south to the parish of Stornoway, Isle of Lewis in the north. It includes the Isles of the Hebrides and most of Argyll and Bute. There are an estimated 10,000 Catholics in the 26 parishes of the diocese.

Celebrating Our Lady of the Isles

The Statue of Our Lady of the Isles, Rueval, South Uist, was consecrated on the Feast of the Assumption, August 15th, 1958, by Rt Rev Kenneth Grant, Bishop of Argyll and the Isles. To mark the 50th anniversary of the consecration, Mass was  celebrated at the Statue by Rt Rev Ian Murray, present Bishop of the Diocese.
